Exhibition in Katonah NY USA
The Katonah Museum of Art
will feature "The
Art of the Puzzle: Astounding
and Confounding" as its major exhibition
for Fall 2000.
The displays will include over 300 mechanical
puzzles and more than 100
jigsaw puzzles, to show the history and
development of puzzles over three centuries and across countries. Ingenuity
of design, beauty and craftsmanship, technology, and the relationship
between puzzle creator and puzzle solver are important themes of the
exhibit.
The two large galleries will also show how
puzzles are used (in education
as well as amusement) and how they reflect their
social context. The puzzles on display are drawn primarily from
the collections of Co-Curators Jerry Slocum
and Anne
Williams. They
have published numerous books and articles about mechanical and jigsaw
puzzles, and have collaborated to write the catalog for the
exhibition.
The exhibition opens on October 15, 2000 and
continues through January 7,
2001. On the weekend of November 11-12 the
Association of Game & Puzzle
Collectors
is sponsoring a number of special
puzzling events in conjunction with the exhibit, including a
workshop on jigsaw puzzles.
The weekend's events are open to the public, but
prior registration is required.
The Katonah Museum of Art is on Route 22 at Jay
Street in Katonah, NY.
It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays,
and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday and Sunday.
For further information telephone the Museum at +1-914-232-9555 or check the web site:
